Mail as we know it today has developed significantly over time. It is suggested that the first envelopes were made of cloth and animal skin, while the first proper mailing system was created in Paris by De Valayer.
He managed to set up various mail boxes and delivered any letters that needed sending out. Two centuries later the first stamp was created and that was in the United Kingdom by Rowland Hill, and it was since then when mailing took the shape as we know it today. We now benefit from many technological improvements and processes are more organised and simpler today than they were back then, but it just goes to show that mailing has been around since the very earliest days.
These technological improvements came about in the 1950’s when the first automatic postal sorter was introduced and the industry has barely looked back since then.
